Single sided PCB

A single-sided PCB, also known as a single-sided printed circuit board or single-layer PCB, is a printed circuit board with a single copper layer. Due to its simple construction, this is often a cost-effective solution for products with relatively simple circuitry.

At SST Hardware, we guide the entire process: from design and prototyping to production and assembly. This ensures that your printed circuit board not only works but is also manufacturable and scalable.

What is a single-sided PCB?

A single-sided PCB, also known as a single-sided printed circuit board, is a printed circuit board with a single copper layer. All electrical connections run through this single layer, keeping the design relatively simple. An FR4 substrate is often used for this type of printed circuit board: a strong and reliable material that is widely used in the electronics industry.

Because only one copper layer is required, production is simpler than with a double-sided or multi-layer printed circuit board. This often makes a single-sided PCB a cost-effective choice for applications with simple circuitry and sufficient available space on the board.

Single-sided PCBs are widely used in, among other things, simple sensors, LED applications, control electronics, and other products where reliability and cost efficiency are important.

When do you choose a single-sided PCB?

A single-layer PCB is suitable when the circuit is relatively simple and there is sufficient space available on the PCB. Applications where this type works well:

  • Simple IoT devices and sensors
  • Simple measurement and sensor applications
  • Consumer electronics, such as remote controls or timers
  • LED lighting applications

As soon as the circuit becomes more complex or the available space on the PCB is limited, it pays to look at a double-sided or multi-layer PCB. Not sure which type of PCB best suits your application? We are happy to help you think it through.

Components on a single-sided PCB: SMD and THT

Both SMD and THT components can be placed on a single-sided printed circuit board. With SMD (Surface-Mount Technology), components are soldered directly onto the surface of the printed circuit board. With THT (Through-Hole Technology), component wires are inserted through holes in the printed circuit board and soldered to the underside.

Which assembly method is most suitable depends on the component selection, the available space, and the requirements of the end product. We carry out both methods entirely in-house, from prototype to series production.

From design to single-sided PCB

Do you have an idea but no design yet? Or do you already have an existing schematic and want to have it produced? SST Hardware guides you through the entire process. We design the printed circuit board based on your functional requirements, check the design for manufacturability, and then start production immediately. Thanks to our own production line in the Netherlands, we maintain control over quality and delivery time. After production, all PCBs are subjected to visual inspection and functional testing so that every printed circuit board functions as intended.

Have a single-sided PCB made at SST Hardware

A good single-sided PCB starts with the right choices in design and production. That is why we look beyond just producing a printed circuit board. We think along with you regarding technical feasibility, component selection, costs, and future scaling.

At SST Hardware, you have a single point of contact for the entire process. From design and prototyping to production and assembly, we keep lines of communication short and the process transparent. This way, you know exactly where you stand and avoid surprises during the development of your product.

Whether you want to create a first prototype or start series production: we help you with every step towards a reliable and manufacturable solution.
